Department store chain

There are actually two types of Sokos that are available in Finland – one is the department store chain while the other would be the Sokos Hotels hotel chain. Back in the 1990s, the Sokos department store chain was foundering due to financial problems. The Sokos department store chain is located in the Joensuu area of Helsinki, Finland. Sokos is particularly popular in Finland for their branded clothing (ranging from domestic labels to international brands.) The clothing sold at the Sokos department store chain can be worn for parties, leisure activities, and even work. At the basement of the department store, one can buy porcelain and glassware, while at the ground floor, one can always go grocery shopping or scout around for perfume if you prefer.

S-Group

The Sokos department store chain is currently owned and operated by the Finnish company called the S-Group. In Finnish, the company is known as S-rhyma while its complete formal name is Suomen Osuuskauppojen Keskuskunta. Aside from the Sokos department store chain, the S-Group runs various other enterprises such as: the S-Bank supermarket bank; the Sokos Hotel chain; the ABC service stations; and three restaurants called the Amarillo, the Sevilla, and the Rosso, respectively. Right now, the S-Group competes aggressively against its corporate rival named Kesko. The S-Group is categorized as a retailing cooperative organization in Finland which is composed of 22 Finnish regional cooperatives. Despite its financial troubles back in the 1990s, the S-Group has been operational since 1904. The S-Group now also deals in car dealerships.
